Week 40: What's happening

So lovely to see lots of our customers at the Denbigh Plum Feast on Saturday, have to say my voice is still suffering as a result of 6 hours talking!! So hard with face masks too. Chris's big tomatoes went down very well, makes it worth all the effort that went into them! In the field we've mainly been dodging the crazy rain, and doing a lot of harvesting.


Eat Your Greens veg boxes:

Small boxes have got butternut squash - wouldn't normally buy butternut as we prefer the other more interesting varieties, but these were cheap! Regular boxes have leeks, broccoli, tomatoes, sweet potato, Savoy cabbage and apples.


The Vale Grocer shop:

Plenty of: palermo peppers, mixed squash (including our Patty Pan squash), red peppers from Prion, carrots, potatoes (Carralus), red / brown / Roscoff onions, broccoli, sweetcorn, Prion leeks, Prion beef tomatoes, avocadoes

Limited: chestnut mushrooms, Savoy cabbage,Romansco cauliflower, Prion runner beans (the last of them), Prion cherry tomatoes, Prion beetroot, local cucumbers, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, fresh chillies

Fruit: pears, local apples (Tom Putt), lemons, clementines


+ hens eggs

+ Bryn Cochyn apple juice

+ sourdough from Nant y Felin

We've also got some lovely jam jar flowers in from Cae Derw (Llanrhaedr) if you fancy something to brighten up the grey sky.


Recipe inspiration:

Anna Jones reminded me about one of the staples in our house - omelettes! A few lovely ideas here from her.


I spent a few months living in India and loved the simplicity of some of the rice dishes I tried. We tried cooking tomato rice this week with the beef tomatoes (they're also very good in pizza!) and it was tasty. There are lots of recipes, but I used this one (didn't have all the ingredients but it worked well without and I just used a normal pan not pressure cooker.
